Thomson Cruises to retire Emerald ship in 2009

Thomson has announced that they will be retiring their Emerald ship next year and replacing it with a larger more modern ship in 2010.

Emerald was a popular Thomson ship and it’s loss will leave just four other ships in the fleet, sailing the Greek Islands, the Western Med and also revisiting the Caribbean for the first time in 8 years. Thomson Celebration ship will be taking over the Emeralds itinerary.

Emerald will make her last voyage on 17 October from Corfu to the Greek islands, Turkey, Cyprus, Egypt and Lebanon.

David Selby, director of cruising for TUI Travel mainstream division, said: "We have had Thomson Emerald for 11 years and it is as popular as ever, but the longer term strategy is to have more modern, larger vessels."
