Costa Cruises commission Fernando Botero sculpture

Costa Cruises newest ship, Costa Luminosa, will feature a specially commissioned sculpture by Fernando Botero (pictured left).

The bronze sculpture is currently being crafted at the Mariano foundry in Italy and will be installed in the Luminosa next year, taking centre stage in the ship’s atrium.

Commenting on the commission, Pier Luigi Foschi, chairman and chief executive of Costa Crociere, said: "This particular sculpture by Botero has such expressive force and energy that it will interact with and influence the setting and interior design in the spectacular atrium of the ship where it is to be permanently exhibited."

The totally unique sculpture will depict a lone woman and once finished will weigh 910 kgs and measure over 340 cm in length.
